Vocabulary: Fall List #4

1. melancholy: a gloomy state of mind; depression.
 ex. Sad movies can put you in a melancholy mood.
2. exemplary: praiseworthy.
 ex. Good grades are exemplary.
3. peculiar: strange; unusual.
 ex. The peculiar smell coming from my meal really turned my stomach.
4. dread: to fear greatly.
 ex. I dread death.
5. bough: a branch of a tree.
 ex. Tarzan swings on boughs.

6. pious: pertaining to religious devotion.
 ex. A father has to be pious.
7. communion: sharing thoughts or emotions.
 ex. There is a communion in an intervention.
8. auditor: a person qualified to audit accounts.
 ex. An auditor examines accounts.
9. multitude: a great number of people.
 ex. To create a flasm mob, you will need a multitude of people.
10. eloquence: fluent in language.
 ex. An english translator has to have eloquence in the language.
11. despair: loss of hope; hopelessness
 ex. Tragic events bring despair to people.
12. hoary: gray or white with age.
 ex. The old man's beard is hoary.
